While GoTreads can be effective on ice in specific situations, it is typically a difficult surface to gain traction on.
GoTreads have deep opposing arched grooves on both sides of each panel. The entire surface digs for traction. However, there needs to be material for GoTreads to dig into in order to work. When the ice is completely smooth and solid, GoTreads won’t provide much assistance since they won’t be able to grip.
Adding packed snow on top of the ice can sometimes solve this issue by creating a layer between the GoTreads and the icy surface. The packed snow freezing against the ice creates a surface for GoTreads to bite into.
